Welkom bij een nieuwe video van Shift Up met dit keer een van de kleinste cabrio’s op de markt, de Mini Cabrio. Vandaag neem ik jullie mee met een hele leuke versie daarvan, namelijk de 192 PK sterke Cooper S!
Yes this car is quite unique in its segment, a compact car with a soft-top convertible roof. Let's start this video by opening the roof which you can do from inside the car, but also next to the car with the key. It takes 18 seconds until the roof is fully opened and you can do that even driving up to 30 kilometers per hour. You don't necessarily have to open the whole roof, for example, you can also open only the front part which gives you a kind of sunroof modes.
So today we are out and about with the Mini Cooper S Cabrio, a 2016 model, which is already the 3rd generation MINI Cabrio. If you compare it to its predecessor, it has become a lot more mature. Whereas the previous model was quite a hard sprung MINI with a real kart feel, this one has become a lot more comfortable. However, the direct steering of the MINI has remained just as fun, so you still really have the feeling of driving a go-kart!
Under the hood of the Cooper S engine variant is a 2-liter gasoline engine with 192 horsepower, good for a sprint from 0 to 100 in 7 seconds and a top speed of 228 km/h. Besides that tasty power, you can recognize a Cooper S by the modified front bumper, the sort of letterbox in the hood, the fancy fuel filler cap and, of course, the modified rear bumper with dual exhaust pipes. And in that exhaust is a nice little rumble that I'd like to let you hear.
You just heard that nice rumble in the exhaust already. You can control how the car responds with the MINI driving modes button and that includes the sound. For example, in the MID modes you drive very relaxed, it shifts up quickly, steers lightly and responds calmly to your throttle response. Want it to do everything possible to reduce your fuel consumption? Then put it on Green modes. Want it to make that nice rumble, steer a little heavier and shift up late? Then put it on sport modes for maximum Go Kart feeling.
Yes and speaking of a kart. Of course, the luggage space of a kart is not very large and practical. That's where they found a solution with this generation MINI Convertible, namely the easy load function. This allows you to lift the roof slightly at the rear, making it easier to load stuff. And rear seats can also be easily lowered with this button, handy right?
So are there any critical points about this MINI? Well the one I can think of is the rear visibility. The convertible roof has a relatively small window so that takes some getting used to compared to a normal MINI.
What is really super good about any MINI at all this generation is the infotainment. This particular MINI features the Navigation Professional screen, or the biggest screen you can order. You can also divide it in two, for example, your spotify on the left, your navigation map on the right.
This particular car is then also equipped with a head up display, a plastic screen in front of your counters that projects information regarding your speed, navigation directions, phone, audio, etc. It also has a rearview camera, the nice clean Harman Kardon audio system, sport seats with brown leather, in my opinion, contrasts very nicely with the Midnight black exterior color.
