Is the new BMW Z4 BETTER than its predecessor | Driving test BMW Z4 sDrive20i G29 | Shift Up

We have previously conducted a driving test of the popular BMW roadster, the Z4. Back then we tested the 30i variant, a 4 cylinder with 252 HP. Whether you have as much fun with the entry-level engine variant, you'll find out in this video of the BMW Z4 20i

I really think this generation BMW Z4 is a super sporty car to look at. We did a video once before this year with a version without the M-Sport package that already looks sporty, but with the M-Sport package it is totally successful in our opinion. Really a different look than its predecessor. In that M-Sport package is a different front bumper, different sideskirts different gills and also a different rear bumper. Another nice detail is the kind of ducktail rear spoiler. The heavy steel roof convertible roof has been replaced with a fabric roof which not only saves weight, but also a lot of space in the trunk. By the way, you can open and close the roof while driving which only takes 10 seconds.

Entry into this Z4 is obviously very low, I can imagine some people having trouble getting in and out. Once seated, you immediately notice the familiar BMW design of the last generations of BMW. No more analog counters but a display that BMW calls the Live Cockpit. On that screen, in addition to your speed and RPM, you can scroll through radio stations, measure your G forces, see navigation directions and also your phone menu.

The multimedia screen has also been updated and in this generation Z4 can be operated with the familiar iDrive button on which you can also write. You can also operate the screen with touchscreen and voice control. Furthermore, in this example we sit on the fantastically seated M-Sport seats. These are seats with high side cheeks of which and a wider shoulder area. Also, you can also enlarge and reduce the seating area. They are really seats that give you the right support even with sporty driving. A small criticism is the location of the cup holders, they are in the middle armrest. So be careful with hot coffee.

Furthermore, the Z4 has beautiful stitching in the dashboard and doors as standard. Also, the materials feel high quality and there are many beautiful aluminum accents. An M-Sport package also includes an M-Sport steering wheel. This one is a bit thicker than a standard steering wheel and is very comfortable to hold. The voice control works very well, by the way; you can also use it to set your temperature or mood lighting, for example.

And then the driving... I personally find the car a bit stiffer than its predecessor. It does have a more comfortable suspension, but the body feels very solid. It has a shorter wheelbase than its predecessor, but a wider track, making it more stable when cornering and very agile. The one we are on the road with today also has an M-Sport suspension that makes it 10 mm lower than normal, so it is also just a little bit nicer in corners.

You have different driving modes. When you start the car in, it's in comfort. Then it shifts up quietly, responds calmly to throttle response and is not so nervous. In sport mode it is the opposite, but that can really put a smile on your face on a nice road on the inside! Other than that, the car shifts nice and fast with its 8-speed ZF automatic and steers nice and sharp and direct. And with the hood closed, one notices that it has a well-insulated hood that muffles noises from outside quite nicely.

This particular one includes:
-Ambiance lighting
-Harman Kardon
-Chair heating
-Chair heating
-DAB
-Wireless phone charger
-Front and rear parking sensors.
-Oyster leather interior, Saphir Schwarz Metallic
