A practical and comfortable BMW with a unique design and spoiler, I'm going to introduce it to you in this video. Welcome to the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo.
When the this BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo came on the market, I was not immediately smitten. In fact, it has a look that both at its introduction and today opinions are quite divided about. Nevertheless, I have come to appreciate this model over the years, and in this video I'm going to tell you why.
Many people are familiar with the BMW 3 Series Touring and Sedan, a series from BMW that has been evolving every few years since the 1970s. In 2013, this particular Gran Turismo variant hit the market, a car that sits between the 3 Series Touring and BMW X3. The 3 Series GT is a version with a larger wheelbase than the sedan and touring version, or in other words, the distance between the front and rear wheels has become 11 cm longer.
That longer wheelbase is based on the 3 series in China. In fact, many people there drive with a chauffeur, which is why BMW has had a lengthened 3 series there for a while now, with thus more legroom for the rear passengers. In addition to its greater length, it has also become a bit higher, making it nicer to get into and more comfortable to drive. What is also special about this GT is the sloping roofline and also the doors with glass without window frames what gives this car really a different design than a 3 series sedan and touring that we have known for years. The aerodynamics have also been paid attention to this car, for example, near the front wheels you see a groove in the front bumper and on the side screen that allows the air to flow nicely past the wheels at high speed in order to be stable on the road.
Also, this car has a spoiler that you can electrically fold in and out yourself and that above 110 km/h automatically goes up to push the rear of the car down. By the way, let us know in the comments what you think of this design. To continue on to the practical part of this GT, we get in the back where you also immediately see how much legroom I have with the front seat in my position. The design of the rear interior is also really thought out. If you compare it to a normal 3 series, you see that the rear seat is placed a little further forward, so that the side of the rear seat continues towards the doors and you can also sit decently with 3 in the back.
The trunk is also nice and spacious and practical. The trunk lid opens and closes electrically as standard. You can easily stow the rear shelf under the cargo floor and the rear seat can of course be lowered with these buttons. Should you then look at how large the cargo space is, really much larger than in a 3 series touring.
Then behind the wheel. Yes the dashboard is the same as that of a normal BMW 3 Series, very nice and well focused on you as a driver. You would expect that as the car gets taller and longer it loses its sporty driving characteristics, but that is not the case with this one. It does get more comfortable than a 3 Series sedan and touring, but it still handles just as sharply.
Under the hood of this BMW is the 320i variant, or the 2 liter engine with turbo and 184 HP. It is equipped with the well-known ZF automatic transmission with 8 gears and different driving modes that allow you to customize the driving experience.
