If you're looking for a compact hatchback and you love driving, this BMW is the one to have.
Today we're taking this 2017 Bmw 118i on the road. It is compact, has a sporty appearance and something unique compared to its competitors, namely rear-wheel drive.
The base of this car has been going since 2012 when the F20 type of the 1 series entered the market. In 2015, BMW made a facelift that got a different front bumper with new headlights and also different taillights that made it loved by even more people. This particular model comes with an M-Sport package, which gives you a different front bumper, side skirts and rear bumper compared to the standard 1 series. Also, this one has the beautiful LED headlights that shine up to 300 meters far.
We have previously made a video with the top model of the 1 series, the M140I with 6 cylinder. Today we are on the road with half the number of cylinders namely with the 136HP strong 118i. And so that's a 3 cylinder. It may not be the fastest 1 series you can order, but it does drive very nicely in combination with the well-known 8-speed automatic transmission and of course the rear-wheel drive. BMW is of course known for its rear-wheel drive, but in the newer BMW 1 series this is unfortunately no longer present. So this is the last 1 series variant with rear-wheel drive and that drive is really unique in this segment, no competitor has it.
Because this car is rear-wheel drive it drives very nicely. It has a weight distribution of almost 50/50 because of the cardan shaft, the differential and because the engine is almost completely behind the front axle. This car also has an M-sport suspension so it is 10 mm lower than standard and therefore sits very nicely on the road. So are there any downsides to this 1 series? If you ask me, the only disadvantage is that there is a relatively large tunnel in the middle running to the back where the cardan shaft sits underneath, so you have a little less legroom than the competitors, but of course you get a lot of driving experience in return.
The infotainment system in this car really works super well. The controls are like many other BMWs with the familiar Idrive which is nice and responsive. It also has bluetooth to make calls and also to stream music via your spotify. You can also use the MyBMW app to link your calendar and when you put an address in your calendar, the MyBMW app will notify you in time when you need to leave so it can take into account the current traffic.
Finally then a word about this particular example, so it is a 2017 118i equipped with M-Sport package, LED headlights, seat heating, navigation business, cruise control and front and rear parking sensors.
