BMW's UNIQUE SUV | driving test BMW X2 20I sDrive | F39 | Shift Up

The comfort of a slightly higher seat, the sleek lines of a coupe and a nod to the 1970s, you'll find it all in the BMW X2

Welcome to yet another new video from Shift Up in which this time I'm going to introduce you to a unique SUV from BMW, the X2. And then a BMW connoisseur might think, didn't they already have enough SUV models? Well that's just how you look at it.

Many people are familiar with some of BMW's SUVs, such as the popular X5 and its version with that sloping roofline, the X6. The X6 is a sort of coupe variant of the X5, and that's what BMW also did with the X3 and X4, and so they thought, we can do the same with the X1. However, when you slope the roof of an X1 as much as that of an X4 or X6, there's no room left in the back at all, so the concept makes no sense. And so BMW decided to make it slightly different from the X1, in order to create a kind of coupe of the X1 on the one hand, but on the other hand still keep a practical SUV.

From the outside, an X2 is completely different from an X1. Thus, it looks somewhat futuristic from every angle. The nose of the car is clearly distinguishable from an X1. A funny detail are the X2's kidneys, because they are similar to those of the X1, but then they are reversed to give the front a very sporty and powerful look. On the side of the car you can also see a very cool and unique line and what immediately stands out is the wide C style of the car with the BMW logo on it. This is something that links to the iconic BMW coupes from the 1970s such as the 3.0 CSL that also had the logo there. You can also see that the A style also slopes a bit steeper than that of an X1 to make it a bit more of a coupe as well. The rear is also completely different from an X1, larger exhaust pipes, different taillights, a smaller rear window and the handle that is incorporated into the BMW logo to open the tailgate.

By the way, you can also open the tailgate by making a kicking motion when the key is near the car. In my opinion, the only critical point about this car is that you have 35 liters less space in the trunk than in the X1. Anyway, if that's all... Look what cool design you get in return! From the trunk we then move on to the side of the car, because the design of the rear doors is also quite special. The window of the rear doors runs quite far, so that when you get in the back you can hardly bump your head. When you then sit in the back you do notice that the roof is slightly lower than in the X1, but fortunately you have plenty of legroom because of the recesses in the front seats.

And from the back seat we go to the front seats and I'm going to show you how it drives. When you're behind the wheel, of course you immediately notice your seating position which in my opinion is very nice. You sit a little higher and therefore have a very nice view of the road. Furthermore, you immediately notice that the entire dashboard is really focused on you as the driver, really typical BMW, that cockpit feeling. By the way, the dashboard is almost the same as in the X1 and is not only beautiful in the light, but also really cool in the dark with all the mood lighting that you can adjust yourself.

Today we are on the road with the 20i Sdrive variant, a front-wheel drive car. All-wheel drive is also possible, by the way. Under the hood of this car is a 2 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine, good for 192 HP, a sprint from 0 to 100 in 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 227 km/h.

Personally, I find it a very nice engine, especially in combination with this 7-speed automatic transmission with double clutch that shifts super fast. Just like in many other BMWs, you can adjust the driving experience with this button next to the gearshift, with which you can put the car in sport mode where it shifts up later, reacts more strongly to your gas pedal and also steers a bit heavier, you can of course also put it in relaxed comfort mode or eco mode. And what I also like about this car is that even in sport mode it doesn't pull very much in the steering wheel at full throttle, which you have with many other front-wheel drive cars.

In my opinion, the X2 is a bit stiffer in suspension than the X1, it is also a bit lower on the road than an X1 and it is about eight centimeters shorter. That it is firmer is not unpleasant, by the way, because on the other hand it is suspended in such a way that the car hardly tilts when cornering, which adds to the sporty driving experience in this car. By the way, if you drive over a normal threshold it reacts very relaxed to it, only sometimes you can feel a cobblestone road just a bit more than in an X1.

And then finally, a bit about this particular model. It is, of course, another richly equipped car with an M-Sport package which gives the car tougher bumpers than standard, sports seats, an M-Sport steering wheel that can even be heated, seats that are electrically adjustable with memory. Furthermore, it has a navigation professional system, or the big screen, operated with the well-known and very fine idrive and even with touchscreen. There is also Apple CarPlay on the system, you can wirelessly charge your phone under the center armrest, the car has a Harman Kardon audio system, DAB, reversing camera, collision warning and much more beauty.

I hope I've given you a good impression in this video of a pretty unique SUV with a nod to a coupe and the 1970s.
