Suppose you are looking for a new car and think a Coupe is cool in design, but still like the two practical rear doors of a Sedan. Which one would you choose? BMW has a solution for that: the 4 Series Gran Coupe.
Cool is that huh, the 4 series Gran Coupe. A lot of people are familiar with the popular BMW 3 Series, which has been built since the 1970s and many generations of which have also been produced.
You can choose from a station wagon they call the touring, a sedan with 4 doors, a coupe with 2 doors and another convertible with 2 doors. Since 2014, that type designation changed and nowadays you don't say 3 series coupe, you say 4 series. And then there was a demand from the market for a car with the design of a coupe, like those beautiful doors with windows without frames, but 2 extra doors so you can easily sit in the back seat. And that became this 4 series, the Gran Coupe.
The Gran Coupe is just as long as a normal Coupe, only the line of the roof slopes a little differently. The roof line is extended 11 centimeters backwards, ending at the rear of the butt to make room for two more doors. With a coupe you have a slightly longer tailgate and because it is shorter in the gran coupe you have more room in the back seat so you can also sit a little better in the back than in the coupe. If you compare it to a 3 series sedan you may have a little less headroom in the back, but the design is a lot more elegant in my opinion. And to go right on about that practical part, the gran coupe has a very practical trunk. With the coupe you have a tailgate where the window does not go up, with the gran coupe it does, making it easier to load things.
Behind the wheel is also slightly different from a BMW 3 series. You sit a little lower, which also gives a sportier feeling. And as you would expect from a BMW like this, the steering is nice and direct, especially in combination with rear-wheel drive. Today we are on the road with an LCI version, which stands for Life Cylcle Impulse, which is BMW's way of calling a facelift. That LCI version has minute changes from the pre-facelift model. For example, the design of the headlights has become slightly sharper and the taillights have been updated. In the interior, the analog counters have given way to digital ones, whose design changes the moment you put it in sport mode or eco pro mode.
With this button next to the gearshift, you can set it to those modes. In sport, for example, you can see that the design of the counters turns red, the car handles heavier, shifts up later and responds more fiercely to your throttle response.
